Lighting Trends

Pritchard & Company takes a look at the latest trends in lighting. Summer has arrived and this is the perfect time to freshen up your house ready to sell. If you are undertaking a decorating project with a view to a Summer sale, Pritchard & Company would be happy to advise.

Good lighting can make a room look complete and well presented. With the darker days behind us it’s time to freshen up rooms and outdoor spaces. We summarise this year’s key lighting trends below, as highlighted by the industry experts – from Habitat and Oka to Christopher Wray and Andrew Martin:

  • Add a pop of colour into a room through lighting
  • Evocative retro pieces will add a personal statement to your home, especially in an entrance hall
  • Neon gas lighting spelling out words and phrases can add contemporary art to your walls
  • Lighting should sometimes be subtle and understated, and at other times, full beam and dramatic
  • Look out for 70s bold and vibrant lights and chintzy 80s lights, both set to see a return
  • Go big, brave and bold: oversized ceiling lights, statement chandeliers and extravagant table and floor lamps
  • In an attempt to combat blue light from our gadgets add a golden glow with warmer LED light to make your space cosy, calm, warm and welcoming
  • Geometric shapes and swirling free form shapes are key, as well as soft finishes and a refined industrial look
  • Garden lighting enables you to use your outdoor space long after dayight has faded, creating a special atmosphere: downlight walls, uplight plants or trees, add a sculptural shape for a statement or a single, large LED candle on a table or in a corner
