Interior Colour Trends 2020

Pritchard & Company summarises key new colour trends for interiors. Colour creatives, architects and designers draw on global insights and influences to define a predicted palette of colours each year.

Colour can really influence emotion and behaviour as well as define the ambience of a room. The experts want to instil us with a sense of calm in 2020 with interiors full of classic, stable, hopeful tones in a refined, neutral and simpler décor.

Here’s what is predicted for 2020:

  • The Pantone colour of the year for 2020 is Classic Blue. “A shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk, it's a colour that anticipates what's going to happen next."
  • Habitat is on Team Blue, but also predicts warm earth tones will be popular.
  • Dulux’s Colour of the Year is a soft greyish green, Tranquil Dawn. “A colour inspired by the morning sky, to help give homes the human touch. This versatile shade of green can be used to create spaces for care or for play, to find meaning or for creativity.” This colour reflects our desire for calm.
  • Behr paints is promoting Back to Nature, a similar pale green to Dulux. “It goes back to lifestyle and how we’re living, there’s kind of a social movement to get out there and engage with nature.”
  • Farrow & Ball’s colours for 2020 are Duck Green and Sap Green contrasted with a muted Setting Plaster or a strip of Dutch Orange for a pop of colour. In the blue camp they have Stiffkey Blue contrasting with white.
  • Little Greene, a relatively new company produces environmentally friendly paints. Working in collaboration with the National Trust, they have a special selection of blues, greens and pinks, echoing the industry’s predicted colours above.

Whichever prediction inspires you most, the colours picked by the trend experts all come from nature - earth, trees and ever changing skies.
