Ask a local...Why Broad Campden is a great place to live

Find out why Broad Campden is a great place to live. We ask Maxwell who has lived in this picturesque Cotswold village for several years.

  1. Where do you live?
I live in the lovely little village of Broad Campden which is just outside Chipping Campden.

  2. What do you do?
    I am semi-retired.

  3. What made you decide to move here?
I have lived in the area for about 50 years and have always loved Broad Campden as a village so I jumped at the chance to live here when my house came on the market as I loved the house and garden instantly.

  4. What do you love about living here?
Broad Campden is very picturesque. It is rural but not isolated, which is the perfect combination for me. I love it for its convenience. I can easily get to Stratford upon Avon and London without having to live there. And I like this central area of the country which really feels like home.
It is only one mile to Chipping Campden so I can even walk in if I like, and I am very handily placed for the station at Moreton in Marsh – I drive the back way through the village roads which is very quick.
I also love the abundant wildlife in the area and the village setting with its undulating hills and rural views.

  5. What do you like to do in the area?
There are lots of lovely walks in this area. When friends visit I take them to see local villages and scenery. I also visit historic houses and there are plenty of nice pubs to eat in locally. There is a lot of history in this area. In particular, Charles Robert Ashbee who was a prime mover in Arts & Crafts Movement lived in Broad Campden.

  6. Do you have a favourite local shop?
Chipping Campden has a good gentlemen’s outfitters and I normally get my papers in Campden. I visit the art galleries in Stow on the Wold and antique centres in Moreton in Marsh. Moreton also has a good greengrocers’ and I sometimes get fresh food from the farm shop Vegetable Matters outside Chipping Campden. Another good shop is Frankie Doodle in Chipping Campden where they are very helpful in finding the right presents for people.

  7. Favourite local place to eat out?
I like the Manor Hotel in Moreton in Marsh, the Mount Inn at Stanton or the Snowshill Arms in Snowshill. The pub here in Broad Campden is very convenient too, The Bakers’ Arms, and for something more upmarket I go to Buckland Manor.
